HéSaM

héSam, for Hautes Études-Sorbonne-Arts et Métiers, is a newly established Pole for Research and Higher Education formed at the initiative of several institutions based in Paris, including the EPHE. This consortium body currently have nine founding members:

  • Arts et Métiers ParisTech
  • The Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers
  • The Ecole Française d'Extrême-Orient
  • The Ecole des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales
  • The Ecole Nationale des Chartes
  • The Ecole Pratique des Hautes Études
  • The Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris
  • The Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle
  • University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne

and three associate members:

  • The Ecole Nationale d’Administration
  • The Institut National d'Histoire de l'Art
  • The Institut National du Patrimoine

The constitutive agreement was approved by the founding and associate members in mid-year 2010. The statutes of the EPCS “HESAM” has been published by the end of 2010.

HéSaM’s mission is:

  • to develop and implement the strategic plan for the Pole for Research and Higher Education;
  • to promote the identity and image of the Pole through a common communication policy; to implement a common labeling system;
  • to organize and facilitate the concerted cooperation among member institutions as regards contractual relationships with the State, local authorities, research institutions and other institutional partners;
  • to reinforce cooperation in teaching, particularly for doctoral studies; to develop and implement new curricula, including dual degree programs; to reinforce life-long education;
  • to reinforce cooperation in research; to support the development of new interdisciplinary and postdoctoral research subjects; to implement a “same signature” policy for scientific publications;
  • to implement and conduct a policy promoting and disseminating research, particularly in the human and social sciences;
  • to promote the Pole within Europe and internationally, its teaching and its research activities; to support the development of joint-collaboration projects and international mobility programs for students, teachers and researchers;
  • to support student life and activities; to support students with disabilities;
  • to enable equal opportunity and provide career placement support for students;
  • to promote cooperation between library services;
  • the pooling of services and activities; cooperation between institutions in areas related to support functions, continuing training, employee social services, employee health management, and cultural and leisure activities;
  • more generally, to implement joint projects for some or all members in areas falling within the scope of their activities.
